Prof. V. A. Mathen Bose has been the founder-patron of Good Shepherd School Kurianoor. He started his career as a History teacher and then realized the need to set up a good school in his own village Kurianoor. His academic activity has been marked by contribution of scholarly articles on History and presentation of scholarly talks for History Seminars.
Prof. Mathen Bose has been an eclectic mix of the East and the West. He has actively imbibed the Hellenic Culture of the West and its Philosophies and at the same time remained rooted to his ancestral East. I treasure his books: The Dictionary of Philosophy, The study of History by Toynbee and the Book on Indian Philosophy.
Prof. V. A. Mathen Bose was a gentle affectionate soul and is fondly revered by his students. His method of teaching resembled that of Socrates, the dialectical method that led the student to reason and arrive at conclusions. He also resembled the Philosopher Aristotle known for his peripatetic method (walking and talking with students informally). He was a monument in taking the school to a great success.
